There are many reasons why precious files can sometimes be lost: hardware malfunction, intrusion, malware attacks, data corruption, hard-disk reformatting and power failure. In addition, it may also happen that you erase data permanently and then realize you have made a mistake. R-Undelete can help you in many of the situations described above, as it can recover lost files successfully. Fortunately, the tool supports various types of drives, including local, dynamic and removable drives. It is also good that it is compatible with most file systems. Moreover, it can undelete data from file encrypted in NTFS. It also has the advantage that it can be executed from an external storage device.

The developers have wisely made this application easy-to-use by applying a wizard. Therefore, you will be explained what to do in each recovery step. Two modes are available. Fast search, which is quick but inaccurate. And a detailed scan that is much more accurate yet desperately slow. This latter mode lets you pick the file type to look for. The results of the search are shown as a tree, which also allows you to arrange them according to the original file structure, creation date, file types, etc. Luckily, you will not have to go through the entire process of a detailed scan because the application supports saving scan results for later use.

While selecting the files you wish to recover, you can preview their contents as well as how corrupt the original data may be, which gives you an idea of how successful the recovery can actually be. In case there are irrecoverable sectors in the intended files, advanced users can use a hexadecimal viewer to take a look at the code or even set a given pattern to fill those parts with.

Fortunately, the application cannot only help you recover from data loss but also avoid it. For instance, image files can be created to store the contents of your disks. These can be used as backup copies from which data can be restored in case of severe damages.

As a whole, R-Undelete is an efficient application. In my opinion, it is one of the best tools of its kind available.
